You Might be Fatter Than You Think

Just in time for Thanksgiving carb-comas — a new study reveals we might not realize how many extra pounds we’re packing.

The Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Women’s Health found that one in every four overweight women may perceive their size as normal.

Sure, a great self-image isn’t too harming — but the study found that these women actually are more likely to engage in unhealthy dieting practices. The study questioned over 2,000 women ages 18 to 25 and found that those who were overweight but perceived themselves as normal were more likely to engage in crash dieting or using diet pills.

In an interview with WebMd, Dr. Cheryl Rock says she wasn’t surprised by the findings. “It might very well be if you look around and you’re not fatter than anyone you hang out with, then you don’t perceive yourself as being overweight. You look like everyone else.”
