Looking to Give? Here are a Few Top Charities

Sure, you’ll get a tax write-off but giving actually makes you feel good too (seriously — scientists found that giving to charity activates parts of the brain that are associated with pleasure).

Neuroeconomics aside, we payed attention when our friends at Marie Claire magazine came out with their list of the top 10 charities. All wowed us but below are the three we’ll be writing checks to this year:

Women’s Fund: 85 percent of your dollar goes to programs to help women around the world. “In the past 20 years, its 115 funds have given more than $200 million to a wide variety of women’s and girls’ organizations,” reports Marie Claire. Just like your mutual fund you choose where you want your money to go. The chosen fund gives grants using your money to nonprofits.

The White House Project: 76 percent of your money goes to programs that help put women in leadership positions. This nonpartisan organization is supported by Geena Davis and encourages women to register to vote, be involved in government and more.

AmeriCares: 99 percent of funding goes to programs that provide urgent necessities like medicine, health care, food and water during natural disasters and violent conflicts.
